A Funny Deconstruction Game That Doesn't Take Itself Too Seriously

This parody game lampoons the Triple-AAA shooter genre more effectively than Spec Ops: The Line ever could. Duty Calls pokes fun at the premise, the dialogue and the gameplay of your typical shooter game... by pointing out how silly the whole thing really is. Most deconstruction games take themselves WAY too seriously, and that's why Duty Calls works so much better at being a deconstructive parody (and a deconstruction in general) than Spec Ops: The Line. And it only takes up five minutes of your time! Well, what are you waiting for!? Go check it out!

Too bad People Can Fly's followup, Bulletstorm ( Duty Calls is an advertisement for it), ticks a little too many "modern military shooter" boxes. Sprinting, taking cover, aiming down sights, regenerating health, two-weapon limit (the AR is always with you, no matter what), no jumping, and more. It really would've benefited it if it was in the vein of older shooters like Quake or Unreal Tournament. Such game would've benefited from it. BUT! It's a pretty good game regardless of those. I know it's tangentially related to the review but given Duty Calls is meant to parody Call Of Duty and its ilk, I never liked how Bulletstorm couldn't get out of (partial) Call Of Duty mindset.
