A story which averts the original set-up of NGE by having Shinji grow up in Tokyo-3 with Gendo — and then by playing it straight, turning the entire concept entirely on its head. Basically Shinji's relationship with his father is a very distant one, so while he's more stable than in canon, he still retains much of his canonical insecurity. This makes for a rather more realistic take on their relationship, as well as Shinji's relationships with people. In other words, very complex. The other characters to appear in the story so far are also very well-written — especially Rei, whose voice the author captures perfectly from canon (and, additionally, making the progress towards a Shinji/Rei pairing very plausible). In addition, the author has a strong, descriptive narrative style that smoothly eases the audience into the story without either rushing or lagging. And the story is intended to be a prelude to a bigger story the author is planning. Definitely worth a look.
