Starts out Strong and Keeps going

Let's begin with this the concept of the fic. Taylor ends up going into a vegetative state because she was stuck in the locker. This results in Emma and Madison triggering, and both wanting to become heroes out to make amends. Unbeknownst to them, Taylor has triggered as well and Sophia is gaining a cricket on her shoulders to whisper how to be a good girl.

We see early on that the changes start even before the Locker Incident. The world itself had changed prior, making it a full AU fic rather than a What If? or butterfly cascade. Different people have different powers, and different events unfolded in different ways.

And the consequences of the Locker Incident are widespread as well amongst the 4 protagonists. All of them have little-to-no trust in the system that was supposed to stop this from happening. None of them have the same level of respect for the PRT or Protectorate as before, and start branching out to a new path. And this puts all of them into circumstances where they have to fight each other.

Taylor can barely act under own power due to her shard's power. But triggering left her with one of the most powerful abilities in the series, and she can connect to Labyrinth in a way no one else can. Faultline is helping her regain everything she lost, and she's made new friends, but her anger still burns with an unholy passion.

Emma realizes the environment she helped create, realizes the extent to which her actions have not only left someone destitute, but also how her own world view has shattered. Her self-worth has plummeted and the betrayal has left her with an obsession to make amends with Taylor. To do that she's willing to become a villain and ends up bonding with the Undersiders.

Madison wants to do good regardless, and joins a collection of independent heroes. While not wracked by the same amount of guilt, she does feel that she shouldn't be stronger because of the suffering she inflicted. Sophia ends up becoming a responsible leader to her own team with Aisha and Bryce, helping them to channel their own aggression and anger at the E88 into something productive so they don't end up getting killed by impulsiveness.

The story is still in its early phase, and I can't wait to see where it goes. Will Taylor accept their apologies after they've atoned, or will the sins remain something they carry for the rest of their lives?
