First of all, you don't necessarily need to have read the Bartimaeus books to read this fanfic. Although it's set in that universe, there's only the occasional vague reference to the triology and I'm sure you can figure the setting out yourself (just think of it as an magicians/spirits!AU). Now to the fic itself. It's gorgeous. In a lot of ways it's reminiscent of the end!verse, but there's also a lot of snark and humor and the characterizations are great. Especially the slowly building trust between Dean and Cas (which shouldn't be possible in that setting but yet makes perfect sense) is beautifully written
