Wasted Opportunity

I'm what they would call in the pick up community an afc (average frustrated chump). This means that I'm not sleeping with multiple random women whenever I want, but I'm happy so who gives a damn. Now this book is not a guide to "the game". This is Style and his story about how he entered the PUA community and how it changed him. It is an interesting read with a pretty honest approach to his real counterparts instead of demonizing the ones he didn't like (if you're like me there will be a few who annoy you). It zigzags between the idea of the benefits and costs of the PUA community to the point where I don't know if the author even knows what he wanted to say. If I had to try and describe his message it would be becoming a PUA for self improvement is good but fellatio and boning with hot women won't fill the existential hole in your soul. He is quite cynical about the meaning of life instead of just saying "screw it" and enjoying it while it lasts.

The psychological side is probably the best part about the book. Throughout reading, I was recognizing a few behaviors or tips that I might want to emulate and recognizing some behaviors in friends of mine. It is an enjoyable read and would recommend it to anyone before they venture into the PUA community.

Now the spoiler section aka if you haven't read the book and don't want it somewhat spoiled you should stop reading. Like now.

Once the latter half of the book kicks off a major conflict begins with Tyler Durden (I think I heard that name somewhere before) and Style. Tyler hates Style mainly because he wants to be like Style. Tyler begins teaching people to copy everything about Style in order to pick up women. Tyler's goal seems to be to become the best PUA out there. The moment I was waiting for was the final confrontation between Style and Tyler. This is how I know it was truthful. The encounter was lame. In a fictional book it would've been epic! These are some of the things I wish Style had said. "You know Tyler your name is a little off. Tyler wouldn't have tried to copy anyone. You're more like the narrator, trying to transform yourself into someone else. Maybe you should be called Styler Durden." Flash a wicked smile and walk away, leaving the doppleganger's ego smashed knowing if he ever becomes the best, it is Style's win since he only beat Style by becoming him.
