My counter-points to the 'Idiot Plot' trope: The entire plot only happens because the people from the future are incredibly stupid and do things extremely backward, essentially throwing new bodies into an already hopeless conflict as opposed to helping the past prepare so that they can better combat the White Spikes after they arrive. Just to list some examples:

  • Recruits are also given no real training and are told nothing about the aliens with the explanation being that "they wouldn't want to go to the future if they knew how terrifying the Whitespikes are." This is ridiculous because everyone is there because they were drafted against their will, so they don't have a choice.
    • Being conscripted would not prevent soldiers from staging a mutiny and deserting en masse out of sheer panic. The fact that basic training has been skipped is testimony to the sheer dire straits future humanity are in.
  • Upon being dropped in Miami beach, the draftees are told to make their way to a lab in order to rescue nearby lab personnel before the area is firebombed. However, firebombing the area makes no real tactical sense, as the lab there is working on incredibly valuable research, and the Whitespikes there don't seem to pose any immediate threat to the remaining humans.
    • Actually, the remaining humans on the field would have been slaughtered by the Whitespikes had the air force not intervened.
  • The military in the future has developed a poison that is effective against Male Whitespikes, but we never see them use it in any widespread capacity.
    • By the time they developed the poison, the military no longer have the capacity to mass produce the poison for mass deployment, which is why they are sending it back to the past to have it mass produced. By then, the Jumplink had been destroyed, making it impossible to send anything or anyone to the future.
  • After successfully synthesizing a poison that is effective against females, they don't use it on the captured female because they don't want to "waste" the dose. This is in spite of the fact that the Whitespikes attacking are here to rescue the queen, and that killing her would cause them to retreat, or at least disorganize them.
    • There is no guaranteed that killing the female Whitespike would stop the other Whitespikes from attacking. Even when disorganised, the Whitespikes have proven to be hard to kill.
