* SoOkayItsAverage: Critical consensus is that the film hits the usual sci-fi action flick plot points and the final product is helped along by the cast turning in decent performances while the special effects and action choreography are all well done.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: [[spoiler: The queen captured by Muri and Dan summons an enormous horde of white spikes to rescue it immediately after it observes them successfully synthesizing the toxin that could kill it, and once freed it spends the rest of the attack relentlessly pursuing them despite there being many other human targets for it to go after. Was it just angry about being experimented on and out for revenge? [[ItCanThink Or was it trying to ensure the destruction of the only thing that could harm it?]]]]

"Idiot Plot" is now Flame Bait.

* IdiotPlot: The entire plot only happens because the people from the future are incredibly stupid and do things extremely backward. Just to list some examples:
** They use their time travel technology to recruit more soldiers from the past, in a conflict where the military might they already had was utterly swamped by the Whitespikes, rather than trying to stop the conflict by helping the past prepare for or even eliminate the threat preemptively, [[spoiler:though Muri at least has the right idea in this regard]].
** Recruits are given no real training and are told nothing about the aliens with the ridiculous explanation being that "they wouldn't want to go to the future if they knew how terrifying the Whitespikes are", which makes no sense given everyone is there because they were drafted against their will and they're ''already'' demoralized because of the abysmal survival rate.
** Upon being dropped in Miami Beach, the draftees are told to make their way to a nearby lab in order to rescue researchers and valuable data/samples before the area is firebombed. However, firebombing the area makes no real tactical sense, as the lab there is working on incredibly valuable research, the Whitespikes pose no immediate threat to anyone but the researchers (who are already dead), and the samples could always be recovered later during one of the resting periods of the Whitespikes. All bombing the area does is kill an insignificant number of Whitespikes relative to their ability to breed, and add another danger for the draftees to avoid.
** The expedition into the glacier has apparently has no intel from geosatellites or US intelligence, though the latter is at least justified. Their plan to find the alien ship is to search the unknown area ''by themselves'' and hope they stumble upon an electromagnetic disturbance.
** Upon finding the crashed Whitespike ship, the protagonists perform no scouting or recon and thus are both surprised by how many whitespikes they are and are unable to specifically target the queen/female first.

** Sgt. Diaz, despite the fact that she has the least characterization of the supporting cast from the future. Being played by Creator/SeychelleGabriel helps. She actually had more lines and a bit more personality in the script but it was all cut possibly due to pacing.

** Any of the recruits count, as all of them (barring Charlie and Dan) are killed off after the first whitespike encounter. Yet they each have unique personalities that make all of them memorable.
** The recruit in the chef's hat deserves an honorable mention, despite only appearing in one shot.
