YMMV / The Tomorrow War

Go To

  • Adorkable: Martin, the student with an obsession for ancient volcanoes.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: The queen captured by Muri and Dan summons an enormous horde of White Spikes to rescue it immediately after it observes them successfully synthesizing the toxin that could kill it, and once freed it spends the rest of the attack relentlessly pursuing them despite there being many other human targets for it to go after. Was it just angry about being experimented on and out for revenge? Or was it trying to ensure the destruction of the only thing that could harm it?
  • Angst? What Angst?: Charlie is shown to be traumatized by his seven days in the future upon his return, but a few days later, he seems perfectly chipper and unconcerned to get back into the fray.
  • Ending Fatigue: The movie seems like it's going to be over after Charlie returns from the future, but there's still a long way to go.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Sgt. Diaz, despite the fact that she has the least characterization of the supporting cast from the future. Being played by Seychelle Gabriel explains it. She actually had more lines and a bit more personality in the script but it was all cut possibly due to pacing.
    • Any of the recruits count, as all of them (barring Charlie and Dan) are killed off after the first whitespike encounter. Yet they each have unique personalities that make all of them memorable.
    • The recruit in the chef's hat deserves an honorable mention, despite only appearing in just one shot.
  • Evil Is Cool: The Whitespikes are one of the most praised aspects of the movie, thanks to their menacingly cool designs and for being a terrifying and even subversive example of the Horde of Alien Locusts cliche.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Critical consensus is that the film hits the usual sci-fi action flick plot points and the final product is helped along by the cast turning in decent performances while the special effects and action choreography are all well done.
