- "Narm: When Mufasa is saving Simba from the stampede and a wildebeest bumps into them, knocking Simba out of Mufasa's mouth. The sound effect is just hilarious."
What sound effect is that? Granted I've mostly seen this film in my language so I don't recall if the English is different, but the only sounds I've heard is Mufasa roaring as he loses Simba and then thuds of Simba hitting the ground. Which of those were Narm exactly?
Why is Nala always claimed to be based Ophelia? I want a link or something showing me that the makers officially said Nala is the counterpart of Ophelia. Because being Simba's love interest only happens in the second half of the movie. Isn't she predominantly known to be Simba's best friend? Simba and Nala's relationship is basically if Hamlet and Horatio fell in love. So why can't she be Horatio? Or both Horatio and Ophelia?

- Harsher in Hindsight: Scar essentially had a lot of Hyena followers who aided him in becoming ruler of the Grasslands, and then it falls into a wasteland/depression, and eventually both the Lionesses and the Hyenas turn against Scar after his incompetence nearly kills them all (that, and other factors). This seems to have eerie parallels to the Obama Administration's being elected and the worsening economic crisis under his administration, not to mention that both Republicans and even the most liberal of Democrats beginning to turn against Obama. In fact, this might also explain why this is the first Disney movie to be re-released in theaters with 3D, and more importantly, why they chose it around this time.
I know, YMMV, but really? Obama's incompetence is going to kill us all? The voters are hyenas? That Disney would re-release this film as to say "hah, that will show Obama!"?
Hide / Show RepliesLook, a lot of people on both sides are complaining about Obama's economic policies resulting in the already bad economic crisis going worse. And while his incompetence may not "kill" us in that it would result in our bodies ceasing to function, it's certainly going to end up killing American society, possibly even America itself, seeing how he is blatantly ignoring several things from the Bill of Rights, a majority of them to boot. You want proof, just ask Rush Limbaugh, who in one of his reports actually cited a Media Liberal who was actually stating that Obama should be removed. Heck, the mere fact that there are people on the Democratic side (ie, Randall Terry) who actually are running against Obama in the 2012 election should be an indicator that even the Democrats aren't too happy with Obama's competence. That's very similar to how both the Lionesses and even the Hyenas expressing distaste for Scar essentially worsening their already bad starving times. Think of food shortages for the pridelands to the economy in America, and then you'll see the parallels. In fact, far too many times in the debates, the Republicans make it pretty clear that the one thing they will agree with the Democrats on is that Obama is not doing a good job at the presidency. Maybe the Disney thing was not necessary, but the rest is, and its very hard not to notice the parallels.
The point was not if Obama does a bad job or not. The point was that this could be said about every leader ever ("He's going to take us down the drain","everyone agrees that he's an incompetent fool", etc), and is hardly something that would be specific to the current economic situation in the US.
Depending on the political viewpoint, one could claim that The Lion King has parallels to each of the 5 last presidents, and probably the 5 next presidents. Or the last 20 presidents. Or the Kings of England. Or the French Revolution. And so forth.
I don't think you're quite getting it: Back in 2008, people elected Obama in a landslide namely because of too much media attention, and possibly because of race issues, without even looking at some of the issues Obama actually represented (I remember hearing from my Economics teacher once that a lot of the voters were pro-life yet voted for the evidentially pro-abortion Obama, and he implies that the reason they did is because they actually didn't know that he was pro-abortion and that he was actually pro-life, for some reason). During the election, he also made promises about trying to reduce the debt ceiling, yet as soon as he took office, he didn't decrease it. If anything, he increased it. While the overall amount might not be significantly more than his predecessor, the primary difference was time: He managed to increase the debt ceiling into the trillions within the first three years in office. In fact, even his primary supporters on the liberal side are actually starting to disagree and go against him.
And reading that, my thoughts are immediately "Boy, that sounds just like The Lion King!" No wait, it doesn't.
Does anyone other than me consider it to be an act of idiocy, or at least a Plot Hole, that Zazu doesn't seem to remember Scar backhanding (back-pawing... whatever, you know what I mean) him into a wall after saying he'd go and find help? Was he too overcome with grief? Did he just dismiss it as clumsiness since his back was turned?
