Anyone besides me think that those positive reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes are all likely to have been bribed by WB?

No, but the reason the critics are saying such good things is arguably more depressing, depending on how deep your contempt for TTG goes. Being film critics rather than people who grew up on Teen Titans in the mid-2000s, they don't have the feelings of betrayal and/or offense that come with seeing a show they liked when they were kids be remade into a more loud and obnoxious style. They certainly have that with plenty of other shows and movies, but not Teen Titans. When they see TTG, they see a smart(ish) show their kids like that makes fun of superhero cliches, excessive darkness, and hyper-masculine posturing in the genre, not what most of us see, a mean-spirited and loud show that uses superheroes to make extended gags about anything but superheroes, devotes entire episodes to ragging on those that dare dislike it, and in general tries too hard to justify its own existence. Sorry to disappoint, but no movie critics are bribed by studios, as much as we would love to blame that on the success of movies we don't like or failure of movies we do like. I'm of the opinion that TTG is the Donald Trump of cartoons (and as someone who hates when anyone tries calling anything the Donald Trump of whatever field a given, well, concept, something is in, no less)- really not that good, even worse supporters by and large, and the kind of bad that ultimately makes its haters worse than either it or its fans.

It can't be helped.

Sorry, tried to edit that response.

I have no problem with the film. Being angry over something that wasn't made for you and isn't what you want it to be is … misplaced priorities.

I agree, Another Guy, I was just trying to put things into perspective with a "devil's advocate"-ish premise. Sorry for coming off as indignant.

It can't be helped.

The film earned $10.5M in its opening weekend.

Once the steam (aka YMMV's "lock") dies down, can someone make notice that Slade (TTG) and Screenslaver (Incredibles 2) seem quite similar?

  • Both specialize in manipulation and hypnosis.

  • Both have a female alias that has a name that when you listen closely ("Jade" Wilson, "Evelyn Devor" sounds like Evil Endeavor), is blatantly obvious that they're actually the villain of the movie.

  • In the climax of the movie, they both use a hyped event as a ploy to brainwash an army of superheroes, eventually including the main character (Elastigirl and Robin get brainwashed) themselves, but leaving a small group to take care of them, with some something babyish and heartwarming as the way to stop the brainwashing (Jack-Jack uses psychic to take off Elastigirl's goggles, the Teen Titans show their "movie" to Robin which makes him realize that it wasn't all about mocking him) .
