  • Broken Base: The game's additional boss after the Queen Metroid, Ridley, has divided the fans from a story-based perspective. On one hand, many are glad to see him due to the fight involving Samus and the Metroid hatchling working together to defeat him, giving a new sense of bond between them. Also, many appreciate how he appears with parts of his Meta Ridley enhancements, helping tie the otherwise self-contained Metroid Prime Trilogy into the greater series. On the other hand, many others consider his appearance forced and blatant Pandering to the Base, as he did not appear in the original Metroid II and he comes practically out of nowhere.

Validity of the points notwithdtanding, a Broken Base is characterized by 3 things : an exceptionally vicious conflict inside of the fandom, with little to no middle ground between, and a sustained conflict, this being both the present definition in the trop page and the rules established by the cleanup thread. A game that has been out for not even a week cannot have a broken base because it fails the sustained criterion (and i'm not quite sure about the middle ground onetoo). If people are still sore about the new final boss in six months, maybe this will become possible.

I agree that the Broken Base entry should not be there until it becomes a sustained conflict and it can be proven that there's little to no middle ground. As it stands now, it just seems like something based off of kneejerk reactions.

Let's wait 6 months first.

I can see the "Ridley comes out of nowhere" part a bit, but that's it. But not that it divided the base. Not at this time.
