Esoteric Happy Ending: Eventually, in Todd McCaffrey's books, the Medieval Stasis of the series is broken with the rediscovery of a Deus ex Machina super computer in a cave, and with its help Threadfall is stopped forever. This is good on its own, but it felt very forced, may not have been quality writing in general, and ended not only the series but the premise of the setting.
This happened in one of the later Ninth Pass books, which only Anne McCaffrey wrote. Todd didn't write any of the books from the Ninth Pass.
