They're not bullying them for the sake of bullying them. Copyright/Trademark law is pretty fickle, and if the company doesn't prosecute people who aren't officially licensed to do make adaptations, it runs the risk of falling into the public domain, meaning they could potentially lose the work. You think it sucks they clamped down on this project? Think about how much it would suck for them if they lost the Copyright/Trademark because they didn't!
