As crazy as it may sound, the protagonists of Battle Claw might be Expies of characters from the 1st season of Pokémon:
Tyee = Ash Ketchum
Shan Shan = Misty
Duppy = Brock (Yes, I'm aware that one is more than a stretch, but still . . .)
Joju = Pikachu
Hao-Lan = Gary Oak
Mo-Yan = Giovanni

I don't know. I think this is a Chinese series that was dubbed in English (the Chinese version is also available on what is now the "Mattel Action!" You Tube channel, and isn't region blocked), so I think it might fall under "Animation" instead of "Western Animation".
