Note: This discussion will contain spoilers regarding Benjamin's Flight

When first playing the game, I was struck by the way Benjamin's sudden blindness was introduced; the player is in a tight maze with a close zoom, so that they will more likely than not blunder into several dead ends before finding the exit… because they can't see, just like Benjamin! As well as being a very quickly resolved use of foreshadowing, I found it a clever and poignant use of gameplay to get across the character's experience, and was surprised that it wasn't mentioned already.

Thing is, I'm not sure what trope this could be put under. The closest thing I can think of is Controllable Helplessness, but that doesn't seem quite right, as you can still get to the end of the level, it's more of a story-affecting-gameplay-but-not-really type thing. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Edited by 121.73.9.40 That's great Zeb. I'm going to get eaten, the last Jedi in the galaxy chomped up by some crawlers because you were too afraid to go outside! Hide / Show Replies

Best thing I can think of is Fridge Brilliance.

When in doubt, intestines.

I put it down as "Gameplay and Story Integration". It takes a while for them to reveal Benjamin is blind; the narration doesn't say so until halfway through the maze, which is similar to Benjamin trying to figure out what's going on and only just realizing it later.
