Is it actually mentioned anywhere that the Outlaw alpha puts you in a coma? As far as I can tell, what actually happens is, it just fries your Hypnospace hardware (the code on the pink screen of death is the one that Gear Head Gregg says indicates hardware damage), and the Merchantsoft staff/interns are so overworked that it takes two or three weeks for them to send your repaired system back.
