From reading just the text of the example I don't see how it applies to tearjerker. Tearjerker is about the audience reaction and the example sounds like it is about the characters reaction. Is an In-Universe Tearjerker Played for Comedy still a tearjerker?
I am in favor of removal unless it can be rewritten to explain why the audience should be upset by what is going on.
This signature says something else when you aren't looking at it.I completely agree with you that in-universe tearjerkers played for comedy do not count.
The only way this would count as a Tearjerker would be if the audience felt sorry for the Titans finding out about the hate comments, and considering that Teen Titans Go is one of the most reviled cartoons ever, well, you get the idea.
I'll remove the example once I am told it is okay to axe.
Edited by CaptainTediumBased in the edit reason, i guess that the person that put the example guess that this is sad.
The person who added the example for isn't exactly a stable person. He's attacked everyone who's ever had a negative opinion on the show.
The type of person they are or aren't is irrelevant. The only thing that matters here is if the example is valid or not.
This signature says something else when you aren't looking at it.You do have a good point.
Do you think the example should remain on the basis that it's someone's opinion the event was sad, or do you still believe it should be removed?
In my opinion the example as it stands should be removed or rewritten. I can't make a stronger statement than that as I have not seen the clip myself, and since I have been troping from work I can't view youtube clips from the computer I'm on.
I am hoping that at least the person who originally posted the example will come in and shed some light on why they think it is valid.
This signature says something else when you aren't looking at it.I strongly doubt that person ever will make a strong argument, so I will go ahead and erase the example.
As I've heard elsewhere, these entries can't lie about what happened in the show.
Disregard the previous statement.
I guess I have no choice but to wait for a third troper to agree that the example has to go.
I messaged ~disneyphilip yesterday (and effectively just did again right now) and I see that they have not made any comments yet. If nothing else happens by the end of the day I think we can call it.
This signature says something else when you aren't looking at it.Okay, I have waited an entire day and still no word from the person who added the example.
Since no attempt was made to defend the example since we discussed removing it, I will now get rid of it effective immediately.
After I made the mistake of curtly removing the example while verbally insulting the person who originally added it, I'd like to courteously explain why I believe the "The Titans Show" example should be removed.
I am not a fan of Teen Titans Go by any means, but reading the trope entry made me curious enough to watch the episode where the scene was described. In context, the scene was hard to call tragic, even in the perspective of someone more forgiving of the show's flaws. The Titans sounded more annoyed than heartbroken by the hate comments they read on DCUmblr and the whole thing came off more like another mockery of the show's detractors.
I respect any and all disagreements made towards my statement so long as a good reason is given for why the example should stay.
