I moved that last example to the Real Life folder due to looking out of place. I thought it looked weird to be sitting outside of the folders.

The Batman example is problematic because the trope is not only not knowing the name of something. It is not knowing anything about it. Since the kid did realize what it was for, the trope is subverted.

Out of curiosity, shouldn't the Garfield example be the Trope Namer?

Can we move some of the Real Life "examples" to Troper Tales please?
We Canadians don't end all our sentences with 'eh?'. Wait, did I say 'eh?' Hide / Show Replies

Okay, somebody did, thank you.

FWIW, I have real-life tested this trope on my children, boys age 7 and 10. (tested in Jan 2015)
1) show pictures of vinyl L Ps. (google image search for "vinyl records")
2) ask "What are these?"
10yo: they are records, they have music on them
7yo: i don't know. discs? (yes they are a kind of disc) Oh, they have music on them, then
So, yes, i'd say this is a "discredited trope"
