Is this even a trope? All it really says is "these stories have an antagonists who sets the plot into motion". That's about 80% of all stories ever told and nothing on the page indicate why this trope is more specific than that.

I have the same question. If the story has a villain, they would be somehow responsible for the plot. Most of examples here just state "without [Villain] the plot of the [story] wouldn't have happened." Well, duh. That's why he or she is the villain of that story.

According to this trope, does that mean that a Big Bad who pulls off a Xanatos Roulette will push the story into Viewers Are Geniuses territory?
