One point on the topic from personal experience: for a completely untrained voice a shower stall's acoustics can actually be beneficial to singing. There are usually a few pitches which hit the resonant frequencies of the space so well that it transforms your voice from "misses every single note" to "can at least produce a few beautifully pure tones".
