I think this trope needs some repair, looking through the examples, its like there are two tropes here.
There's the Revealing Cover Up, which is something big and flashy that covers up something else by distraction.
And there's the Revealing Cover Up, which is a cover up that is flawed and ultimately leads to the reveal.
I think it should be the second one, since the first can go under Kansas City Shuffle.

Did that draft on the Trope Launch Pad about covering up a crime with another crime ever get launched? I just added an example to the real life section that would fit better there.
