I think this trope perhaps should be named Pursued Herald, because not all pursued protagonists can always make it: Sometimes they're the bad guys, sometimes they get killed (i.e. eyewitnesses to a crime), or sometimes it was an extreme case of Mugging the Monster (see Darker Than Black).

I'm currently writing a new trope that focus more on the chase settings than on the characters. Seen it a million times (it's midnight, a person is running away outnumbered and overpowered, always on foot, most of the time ending up in an alley). I called it "Dramatic Chase Opening" (see https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=i6q03ekd9hghm65tsjkm6bif ).

Somebody commented that these two tropes are very similar, perhaps we could make a distinction.

Personally I think that it should be changed to herald, since the word protagonist is very misleading. The character often dies, therefore not really becoming the main character that the story centers around.
