The 6th edition Champions RPG has the Universal Scientist which is found in the Advanced Players Guide. The Universal Scientist means that a character with this Talent is intimately familiar with the entire realm of Science.

I think this trope is justified, as it spares the creators from creating LOTS of characters.

Missing example: Doctor Rudy Wells from The Six Million Dollar Man. In the pilot he was originally Steve Austin's personal physician, but he was then recast as a world-class expert on whatever they needed a scientist for in each new episode.

proposed quote to add. It's from a video about global warming on youtube by a guy named Potholer54: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZzwRwFDXw0&feature=related

he's talking about the scientist, Brains, from Thunderbird.

"Brains may have been an expert in every aspect of science, but his ass was made of plastic. Real life scientists AREN’T experts in everything; they have to specialize."
