TV Tropes isn't limited to fiction. I think something like a company asking customers for content suggestions (like mascots or slogans) would count for this trope.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
Could the current fifty-star version of the US flag, chosen from submissions, be considered a real life example?
