There is a bit of this (in the spirit of "fish's unique role in Carnivore Confusion" ) in Real Life and/or Religion/Mythology with Judaism: All creatures of the land fit to eat must be handled with care and should not be consumed except as ritual slaughter permits. Fish, on the other hand, are aquatic vegetables as far as dietary concerns go.
I've noticed this also seems to apply for insects and other invertebrates in most manga and anime.
It is not rare to see a shot of your stylized human character right next to a photorealistic cicada.
