I removed
- Some Sponge Bob Square Pants fans with a mental disability seem to like Patrick.
It's a pretty obviously offensive statement. Also, strictly speaking, Patrick was never actually intended to portray a particular mental disability, nor mock those who have them. He's just a token dumb character.
Hide / Show RepliesSomeone more versed in MLP should probably weigh in on this, but is this really an example?
- Feminine women love Rarity as she averts the Alpha Bitch and "bimbo" stereotype associated with fashionistas by being, whilst admittedly a little narcissistic, still extremely kind, generous, and intelligent.
This reads more like "Members of a demographic like this character for being a positive portrayal of the demographic which avoids the stereotypes" than "Members of a demographic like this character despite their being a stereotype". In fact, from what I've read about Friendship is Magic, isn't "all versions of femininity are valid, including being conventionally feminine" kind of the point?
Edited by DaibhidC Hide / Show RepliesFor God of War Ragnarök, I wrote Thor as an example because his design created some backlash because people were angry that he didn't look chiseled like the common marvel interpretation. But People from the scandinavian region adored the design because they found it a more accurate portrayal of the god of thunder.
Have I used the right trope? Or is this a misuse?
Hide / Show RepliesI've removed it anyway on the possibility that it's wrong but some clarity on the matter wouldn't hurt.
Could someone read the comments for the Nostalgia Critic review of Darby O Gill And The Little People (official You Tube upload here) and if it's a genuine example of this trope, add it to the page? I'm not sure.
mudshark: I don't expect Nate to make sense, really."*American History X has its share of neo-Nazi fans. Though the movie is intended to show that racism is wrong, the neo-Nazi main character is frequently shown in flashbacks to be strong, fierce, proud, articulate and a good leader to his gang. If you edit together all of his triumphant flashback scenes, you could make a pretty decent recruitment video."
This sounds like it should be in Misaimed Fandom instead. This trope is about things that might be offensive, not direct critiques or condemnations of certain things, last I checked.
Edited by 65.190.3.52 Hide / Show RepliesI would agree with that.

"Maybe a little too much" Now I find that to be nonsense, who wouldn't want a piece of Speedy?
