Given that the tracking patch Spock uses on Kirk is included, would the homing device in Mr Incredible's suit from "The Incredibles" count? Not only does it set off Syndrome's sensors, it's the entire logo in the middle of his chest and it lights up & beeps when activated. This should be included under "Western Animation" yes?
The day when the picture on this page was changed was the day TV Tropes Jumped the Shark.

This is terrible. This is Serious Business taken Up To Eleven. No, the old image was not descriptive. It was just funny and cute and I doubt it actually confused people into thinking this trope was about literal insects. But nooo, serius tropers are serius — we can't have fun here in TV Tropes any-more if it interferes with our high holy mission of being some sort of cold, professional reference work. This website used to be different. The general attitude was different. Rule of Fun was a good enough reason to do something. Now that is gone. It makes me very sad.

Lack of real-life obviousness of a small item is often played down by clever camera work. We see the character who is looking for the item from a low angle, from a POV close to the object, so that it occupies much of the close-up foreground. The item is therefore glaringly obvious to us the audience, and thus we do not object if it takes the character a mere second to locate it, even though they would actually have had to scan a rather large area.
