Does a "the pet died of old age/in battle/was killed because it was getting old enough for his organs to fail and I'm eating it/selling the meat and skin because it'd be a shame if it went to waste" (which wouldn't be out of the question in a post apocalypse setting or in savage (Noble Savage or not so noble savage) tribes) count as a Downplayed Trope?
