As I'm seeing quite a few album covers repeated and improperly sorted, I would like to point out that even if the cover is a black and white photograph, if the title/band font (i.e. Elvis' debut and London Calling which was based on it) is in colour it should be moved to limited palette.

Sepia/Desaturating tone IS NOT deliberately monochrome. By its definition "monochrome" means black and white. A lot of indie movies shot with super 16 are deliberately sephia, not grayscaled monochrome. I suggest that we split the trope

Ivan The Terrible has the Oprichnina party scene in colour and the rest in monochrome, but it is more that colour film was rare and expensive at the time, than for any thematic purpose.
