MWM diesel engines sold in F-1000 pickup trucks (South American F-150) have a killswitch that cuts off the air to the engine. You have to disable that before trying to turn the engine, which could be confusing to regular gasoline car drivers (all diesel cars should have it, but I know this one). The only way to turn it off is pulling that switch, hooked up by a cable; the keys do nothing. You can disable the whole electrics of the truck with the key, but the engine just keeps going.

Let me rephrase it: An eletromagnetic pulse can't kill that engine, only air and fuel starvation can.

Modern SUV-sized diesel trucks have a solenoid valve wired to keys: turn it off and the solenoid closes the air intake, choking the engine.

And every single semi-truck in existence has that hardwired manually operated switch, for obvious reasons. Some Detroid Diesel owners may also have a turbo intake cover, literally a lid, because those were prone to burning their own oil and runaway, like described in the article.

There's a webcomic comparing "hacking in movies" to "hacking in real life", where the real life victim just turns off his computer. Anyone know where that can be found?
