I don't think sorting examples of this trope by console generation makes much sense, not least because not all video games are console video games.

Shouldn't Mother Brain from Metroid be on here? Mother Brain may be alive in that jar (or out of it, depending on iteration), but "she" is immobile, and in the NES original and the first part of Super Metroid's final battle, the real threat comes from the turrets and Rinkas around her jar - it's only in Zero Mission that Mother Brain can actually shoot back.
