Pulled these, since the colours don't seem to directly indicate that someone's in charge:

  • According to the Doctor Who story The Deadly Assassin, the majority of Gallifrey's political power is held by the Prydon Chapter, who are signified by their scarlet and orange ceremonial robes, while all the other chapters wear various other colors. This distinction seemed to be lost when the new series brought them back, although Word of God was that it was supposed to be unity during the time war.
  • In Star Trek, Starfleet officers wear gold, blue or red depending if they are Command, Science, or Support Services (gold & red reversed in TNG & subsequent.) It is a little inconsistent, but Medicine & Biosciences seem to wear light blue, Social & Behavioral Sciences a medium blue, and Physical Sciences a very dark blue.

The captain in Star Trek is always in the Command colours, of course, but the department colours don't themselves indicate rank (Mr Spock is in science blue, and everyone in gold except Kirk is subordinate to him).

The Doctor Who one is a little vaguer, but the impression I got was that Prydonians are more likely to become powerful politicians, but that doesn't mean the Prydonians as a whole are a ruling class. It seems like the Chapters are meant to be something like political parties (as far as elections go; they're also sometimes more like Oxbridge colleges or noble families), so a junior Prydonian (when a Prydonian holds the Lord Presidency) would be like a backbench MP of the ruling party, while the Lord Cardinal of the Arcalian Chapter would be more like the Leader of the Opposition. The latter is a more senior position, but not really in the same heirarchy as the former.

The Image Picking discussion is locked but it is still showing up on the main page. This isn't the first time I've seen this and I find it extremely annoying. (Go Go Pet-peeve powers?)

Could someone please delete the topic so that I don't need to see it when it isn't even doing anything?

Guess who, it's Kaosubaloo!
