Okay, bear with me as I am not intimately familiar with all of these examples and may have made an error in judgment. I have put the examples here so that they are easily copy-pastable if deemed relevent. If I am wrong, kindly put it back, alphabetically, where it belongs.

That said, "Works commonly mistaken for Boys Love" is not "Works with Ho Yay and a large slash fanbase". Nor are they "Works with Yaoi Guys that are not Boys Love." Those go on the Yaoi Guys page, not here. This is for the occasions when it is truly a surprise that the work isn't intended as Boys Love.

Special Note: Could someone pare down the Clamp section which seems to be a list of works with either Yaoi Guys or Ho Yay, lists which are already on those pages if I recall properly. Code Geass is coming off for sure, but the works excepting Legal Drug and xxxHolic I don't know well enough to say to what extent the relationship highlighted affects interpretation of the story.

  • Code Geass (character designs done by Clamp) hints at this frequently with Suzaku/Lelouch and the much more one-sided Rolo/Lelouch pairings.

  • As with many manga serialized in Zero Sum, Karneval has ample hints of Ho Yay, from Gareki's looking after Nai all the time (Nai's innocence particularly effects him), to Yogi's perceived friendship with Gareki (to the point of groping his chest, overdramatically weeping with Gareki forcibly in his arms when the teen has some mild variation of tentacle rape performed on him, thinking of him as cute because of the deredere side of Gareki's Tsundere characteristics, and then saving him in chapter 19 because of circumstances currently too much of a spoiler for this troper to want to reveal), to Hirato and Akari's Foe Yay, to Yogi practically being Hirato's right-hand man, to Yogi's utter fear of Doctor Akari, and so on...Even so, it's still shounen.

  • Some would say, Naruto and Sasuke's relationship frequently plays around with this trope, especially in official art, though as of late it's a little more one-sided on Naruto's part.

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion played with this trope a bit in regards to Shinji and Kaworu's brief but intense friendship at the end of the series. Even canon artwork illustrations tease at it a bit.

  • Pandora Hearts loves to ship tease Oz and Gil with just about everyone, as well as each other. Even though it's shounen some scenes look straight out of a Boys' Love manga.

If there are any on the original list that shouldn't be there that I missed, please post them here for future reference.

Now that I've read some more Clamp, I can say these definitely don't belong. The examples are either Yaoi Guys or Ho Yay in series that are not easily mistaken for BL.

Legal Drug is a legit example. Can anyone speak for Card Captor Sakura or Tokyo Babylon?

To me, Card Captor Sakura is Shoujo with Yaoi Guys in it (Yukito and Touya are spelled out explicitly as "most important one" for each other). Tokyo Babylon can be considered BL (the whole series is Will They or Won't They? between the two leads, and they talk about romantic love, not just friendship) except that its genre designation is apparently Shoujo.

I've never really understood the idea that apparently only women can enjoy yaoi, and that men all prefer bara.

Just seems kind of weird to me.

personally, I think yaoi is much better. Bara always seems to be PWP.
