Isn't this trope basically a videogame-specific version of Pummeling the Corpse?

I recall that in Alone in the Dark 3, one of the game over animations is gravediggers beating the player's corpse with shovels. They're very dedicated to being such assholes, to the point of fishing the body out of lava to do this.

I'm not sure this example is one for this trope.
