Wow, I know the trope is meant well, i.e. to flag up how "Africa" is carelessly swept into one box by Western creators/audiences, but this sounds horribly condescending and is really undermining that stance. In what world does the possession of phones and KFC count as "an intelligent and innovative society"?

The quote for this trope and Bulungi is the same. It's probably better here than there, because of the "treat Africa as one country" line.
