I agree. It's a juvenile attempt to appeal to a stupid common denominator. I mean, it implies that Harry Potter is some sort of end-all be-all yardstick for fiction with an academy and supernatural elements. Not only is it unoriginal, it's disrespectful to both the authors and audience.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.
Is there any particular reason for the opening line— something that would invite particular comparison, or a running fandom joke? Otherwise, I think we can assume that TV Tropes readers are smart enough to realize that not every fantasy book with a student in't is just a Harry Potter rip off!
