The Lilith's Brood series does not include an Oankali aversion to sentience. Everything they create is alive in the series. From the Oankali "space ships", to their Oankali habitats on Earth. All their children are sentient.
I think something must have been lost in translation from science fiction novel to TV Tropes article because while the Oankali do punish humans who kill by sedating them and sending them to live on a "space ship", it's not a loss of sentience, only their murderous rage.
And I think we can all admit that loss of murderous rage and being sedated is a far cry from a loss of sentience.
