If Oreki Houtarou is lazy and his social skills aren't so great, doesn't that make him focus on other things? Like solving those mysteries. The part of the brain were the social life occurs in him is used for the mysteries. Like you know how the blind have really good hearing because their eyes don't take up a part of the brain to see. That part is not used, so it goes to the hearing part. I dunno about this, but it's a thought :) .
