King Shark pretending to read a book becomes even funnier when you realize that he wouldn't have even been able to see the thing the way he was holding it, considering that his eyes are on the sides of his head.

This is conjecture because it's never established or implied that King Shark can't see things directly in front of him. If anything, it's implied to be the opposite. He behaves as if he has binocular vision throughout the film, always looking at things straight-on even when up close rather than tilting his head to one side. It makes as much sense as him breathing air through his gills.

good point, though as for the gill thing I just assumed that he had a set of gills and a set of lungs like a lungfish, due to his nature as a Half-Human Hybrid.
