That's been asked on the Headscratchers page. The TL;DR is, people don't have perfect memories, especially after 30 years of a person they knew for less than a week.
whoa- this is a busy page ... my humble addition: - I submit that, by leaving Jennifer [unconscious] on that porch whilst altering the timeline - that Marty in fact "returns" to an entirely different person - no continuity but in role left to her identity, she is thus just a virtual character from an expired branch of alternate reality, as it were ... Draw your own conclusions as to whether Identity carries over or not, but I'd say he erased his original girlfriend with the timeline, by not bringing her along for the ride... Unk'

I really searched for this, but it seems so obvious that I hope I didn't just miss it. "Marty ... such a nice name." And I can't help but think every time I see it, "Let's name our second son Marty." Followed usually with "and then totally fail to comment when he looks exactly like that kid with the same name that we knew in high school who was such a huge part of our lives for a week."
