I think the Lighter and Softer trope on this page should be changed to Darker and Edgier. Honestly, despite the more colorful atmosphere and arguably more goofy moments, Escape from L.A has a much more villainous president, a downright Orwellian U.S government, a much bigger prison with more innocent prisoners (here, a lot of the prisoners are people who are atheists, Muslims, Gays, etc.), a psychotic plastic surgeon, and last but not least, the downer ending.
