Several of the examples on this page include offscreen deaths (such as Bambi's mother). I really don't think that fits the trope at all. It's not "any death that's in a movie aimed at kids," it's a death that's surprisingly violent for the medium.

I concur. In fact, the vast majority of entires here seem to be in no way related to this trope. People seem to be interpreting this trope as "make any random movie death seem as dark as you can, even if you have to grasp." IMO, nothing from Disney animated canon should be on this page. Neither should any death that happens off-screen, unless the aftermath is unusually disturbing or gruesome for a movie.
