IMO, Jeanne Alter and Ereshkigal are working on backwards logic in the assumption they're popular because of their events when it's really they, especially the latter, got to be 5* Servants with events because of their popularity.

Don't know about Scathach or Shuten, and can't start up FGO to check because maintenance; however, I can comment on the rest.
JAlter: As Nouct said, I'm pretty sure she got an event because she was an Ensemble Darkhorse.
Dantes: Well, he was introduced in an event, and has continued to make fairly consistent appearances since then, so I'd be willing to accept calling him a major character.
Eresh: Again, event due to popularity. (Swimsuit Eresh when?)
Merlin: Even if his only major appearance was in Babylonia AFAIK, he's prominent enough both there and in lore to qualify as a major character.
Gramps: I doubt Grand Servants (which are very much a Big Thing) wouldn't qualify as major characters, so...
Summer Servants: While it's true that the summer events tend to focus on them (for obvious reasons), when they end they tend to disappear until the next summer; outside of that they only have a handful of appearances outside of summer events, all of which only occur as transformations of their standard selves. In other words, they pretty much only canonically exist for the summer events. Which side of the "major character" line that puts them on I'll leave up to you guys to decide.

Some of these entries seem pretty suspect to me. Ensemble Darkhorse isn't just "any non-main character with some fans"
- Hector: I have almost never seen anyone talk about him, like, ever.
- Tesla: Better than Hector, but still largely ignored.
- Asterios and Euryale: Euryale is popular as a unit, but characterwise she and Asterios are about as popular as any other servant.
- David: I like him, but he isn't really that popular.
- Proto Merlin: No. She's just a character that people speculate about being added to the game.
Those are just the big ones. There are a few other shaky examples too.

Tempted to add Fairy Knight Gawain as an example, but not certain if she really qualifies. From what little I've seen, she seems to be well-received, but I don't know if she's EXTENSIVELY popular; also, I'm not sure if she's disqualified on the "relatively minor character" front because I don't know what the story for LB6 is and thus can't say how prominent she is there.
Since I'd like to add her but lack the information to objectively ascertain whether she actually fits, I'd like to ask for a second (or third, or however many extras you guys feel like giving) opinion on the matter.
Feel free to discuss the other Fairy Knights while you're at it, if you'd like.
The Lostbelt 6 story hasn't reached its end (only 9 chapters out of ??? are released right now), so it's very difficult to actually ascertain her popularity to prominence ratio until next month, I'd recommend holding off until July.

Ensemble Dark Horse is supposed to be about minor/secondary characters that are disproportionately popular for their role/importance. A lot of the character listed here like Scathach, Jeanne Alter, Shuten-douji, Edmond Dantes, Ereshkigal, Merlin, King Hassan, and the Summer event servants. Are 5* servents, who get events and story sections focused on them and are advertised heavily in their own banners.
