Should the Spider-Verse tropes applying to Mayday, Benjy, Peter, MJ and Wes be moved elsewhere? Since Spider-Team Up #3 implies that the Mayday and others in Spider-Verse don't belong to this universe?

I don't have the issue handy but off the top of my head, the evidence for the spoiler:

  • May referring to Ben as "Benny" instead of her usual nickname for him, Benjy, throughout the issue.
  • The speech May gives at the end of the issue about how, in some other universe (implied to be MC 2) maybe her family and boyfriend lived.
  • Little details like the Spider-Verse May being drawn more like she was in the earlier series instead of her long haired appearance in Amazing & Spectacular. I believe the costume is a little different too? Here is discussion about it on Tumblr.
  • Word of God via Tom De Falco that fans should read Spider-Team Up #3 "very closely" and that developments in #3 may cheer up fans who were mad about events in Spider-Verse. Again, here is a link.

It's not confirmed yet (we may have to wait until Secret Wars for that) but the character page may need to be edited and/or clarified soon.

I have the issue, and reading over it, I can see how it could be interpreted in that light, especially by fans unhappy with the direction Slott's taken the character. However, in all of her other appearances, Mayday and Benjy have explicitly been stated to be the ones from MC2 (Earth-982) multiple times from the get-go. As for the differences in her costume, minor details like the ones you mentioned change depending on who's drawing a given character, and the explanation for as to why her hairstyle in Spider-Verse is shorter than it was at the end of her home series could be as simple as her having gotten a haircut at some point between the end of her series and the beginning of Spider-Verse. Seeing how May has referred to her little brother as "Benjy" in every other appearance, "Benny" could have been a typo - such things have happened in the past, and the letter n is right below the letter j on the keyboard.

As for the speech May gives - "I really hope there are an infinite number of alternate realities. Maybe even one with a Mayday Parker who woke up this morning to eat wheat cakes with her parents and baby brother." - nothing suggests to me that it's a reference to Spider-Verse's May being a different incarnation referring to the original version. It reads to me like it was a combination of DeFalco bashing Slott for ruining May's happy ending and foreshadowing Renew Your Vows, which stars a version of Peter Parker who never divorced MJ and who has a young version of Mayday as a daughter.

If you still think it's not MC2 Mayday, ask Marvel yourself. If you're lucky you might get a reply.
