Magatsuhi is not the youkai whose soul is inside the Jewel. Magatsuhi is an evil spirit: According to the series the four souls become one spirit that resides inside the heart, if the person is good the spirit is balanced and is called Naohi, if the person is bad the spirit is corrupted and is then called Magatsuhi. The Shikon Jewel is capable of the same, and when it got enough negative feelings both coming from within (the youkai) and outside (Naraku), it was so corrupted that a spirit was created of its own; this is Magatsuhi, the "evil feelings" of the Shikon Jewel.

Would this make Magatsuhi The Dragon to the Jewel or just a natural phenomenon that occurs when it has been corrupted?

It does seem a natural phenomenon, a manifestation of its evil feelings when it's heavily corrupted. I don't know if Magatsuhi fits The Dragon, he's literally the Jewel's evil feelings, but on the other hand, he can enforce the Jewel's will and do what it physically can't (being an object and all). I think The Heartless is the trope that fits the most for him.

I was feeling the same way. He seems to have some Dragon-like qualities but he and the Jewel don't interact enough to establish what kind of relationship they have. The Heartless makes most sense to me as well.

I deleted the Eldritch Abomination trope, since the ancient youkai that fought Midoriko doesn't break any internal logic, nor is it beyond comprehension.
