I think this page should have examples from star vs the forces of evil. Obviously there was a lot of character derailment that happened alongside flanderization in season 4 with the victims being queen moon and the magical high commission

Troperr means Troper revolution. I'm here to bring revolution to this Site by expanding trope examples wherever such expansion is needed

If Lemongrab isn't all that convincing, Finn might be considered a case. From earlier seasons, Finn starts off as a silly and aggressive Jerk with a Heart of Gold with Chronic Hero Syndrome. Starting near the end of Season 3 and the beginning of Season 4, he ends up having some emotional breakdowns since he can't love Princess Bubblegum anymore, thus losing all his heroic traits, no longer becoming the Hero Ooo desperately needs. The middle of Season 5 makes him even worse, even before and after the breakup with Flame Princess, the girl he ended up loving after losing PB, suffering a severe case of Took a Level in Jerkass, Love Makes You Dumb and a few What an Idiot moments. He eventually recovers from these 3 traits, however, and considering that he's been entering puberty, it's understandable. The end of Season 5 and the start of Season 6 even shows how this affected Finn as a whole, and its clear it hasn't him done him any good, especially since he lost his arm for a time when trying to meet up with his Disappeared Dad, which REALLY dealt a great deal of emotional damage to him.

Isn't it Character Development? Also isn't it a bit exaggerated to say that he "lost all his heroic traits" because he has emotional breakdowns? Because he's still strong and willing to help people.

Yeah this really isn't derailment. It seems more "this character is growing up and having flaws/depression and I don't like that" complaining.

Would it be alright if Bubblegum gets re-added here since she's on the Scrappy page?

She's only there as a Base Breaker though, and as the discussion down below shows, she's always been Cute and Psycho, just the later seasons gave her more Sanity Slippage from all the burdens, no change in personality.

* Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time in the early season was a kind, caring and understanding ruler who just happened to enjoy science. Nowadays, she's a selfish, manipulative, and downright racist Mad Scientist who only cares about her people's blights if they directly interfere with her experiments.
  • As of "Rattleballers", we can also add genocidal to her list of traits.

I pulled this. She was always called out on being Cute and Psycho from season one, the first time being "Duke Of Nuts" I think, the 'genocide' was because her kingdom was being put in danger (plus the ending signified explicitly that she'd become less bloodthirsty), she had a big scene in "James" demonstrating her care for Finn plus Sky Witch and The Vault with Marcy and Shoko respectively. She's not getting derailed, she's just getting shown more often.

Funny you should mention "James", because in that same episode, PB deliberately rigs the events of the plot so that the titular character would be forced to kill himself in a "Heroic Sacrifice" simply because she thought that was his "destiny".

But what about Finn's derailment? He used to be a good-natured, always helpful hero we all love, now he's become an absent-minded, love-drunk jerk.

Not quite. He's always had jerkish qualities and he's still likable, just growing up. Heroes with character flaws yay!

I think that people confuses the Finn Character Develpoment with Character Derailment
