One of the tropes listed "Never trust the title" comments how both Maquia and Anohana has nothing to do with flowers despite it being in the title, which I feel is a bit wrong. Flowers - and especially the cherry blossom (sakura) - is a symbol for people whose lives have impacted others significantly despite their short lifespan; a beauty that lasts only a moment. Another symbol for this in East Asian culture is fireworks, or hanabi in Japanese, which means "fire flower".
In this way I feel "flower" fits in both Maquia's and Anohana's titles, as it refers to the short life of Ariel &co. in the eyes of the Iorph, and Menma in Anohana who was a short lived but impactful existence in the protagonists' group of friends growing up.
Maquia's son is called Ariel here but IMDB has him as Erial. Any reason for that?
