As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Bumping this because the development is more active now, and it would be a huge improvement over the system we have now.
There's an Engineer position on the list of things to do (dev-wise), so that might be what you're looking for. Don't know how far along the line it's gotten - you might want to ask a mod for that.

One big problem with TV Tropes is that common wiki actions, like cutting, moving, and custom Wiki Word are restricted from regular users, making staff users overloaded with work to do. My proposal is a queue where all these actions can be requested, then listed publicly (similar to the cutlist), and could be either approved or flagged (hatted or bombed?) by other users. If it goes through without flagging, then the action goes through automatically.
Preventing quick troll actions: All queue actions would have to go through a timer (maybe 24 hours) letting regular users see and flag it. If it reaches some minimum of flags, the action is canceled. Flags would require an explanation, so discussion goes more smoothly.
Handling important actions: More dangerous actions like cutting could be detected as having a higher importance than less dangerous things like custom Wiki Word. Importance could also be determined by page type, number of wicks, or number of inbounds. Actions detected as more important could require move votes, longer waiting times, and/or mod approval.
Handling large amounts of actions: The interface would need a way to make sure important actions can't get overcrowded by smaller ones, such as a sort-by-importance system. Related bulk actions on various pages could also be submitted together, similar to bulk edits in an Image Booru. It would be useful for when a repeated action is needed for many pages, like moving a work and its sub-pages.
Scope of the queue: in addition to cuts, page moves, and custom Wiki Word, things like launching tropes, or maybe even editing locked pages could be handled through this. If you want to take it to the logical extreme, certain admin-only actions, like changing namespace icons, could be done submitted by mods.
Benefits: Increases convenience, transparency, and usability of custom Wiki Word for both mods and other users. Page moves would become more common, helping preserve page history, as a form is more inviting then having to dig through a forum just to find a topic for requesting certain page actions. The system could help streamline things for the devs, as simplified versions of this system could be used for other things like ATT, Bugs, Wishlist, YTTS, and Trope Finder.note
edit: Removed references to limited functionality of Video Examples, which is now more open.
