Okay. So I was writing a short story and I was trying to research some of the plot points on this site and couldn't find anything that seemed like a good match.
Basically, in this situation, there WAS a government, but it no longer exists due to an apocalyptic war. There is an isolated community. One day,non-local characters show up, in an antagonist role, who CLAIM to be The Remnant, except that's a lie to justify them assuming authority over the locality or making a demand of the locals. They are simply using invoking the previous authority for their own purposes. Which also means this doesn't seem to fit Renegade Splinter faction either. Or does it? Is it a borderline example of either? Or is there another trope I'm missing.
I wasn't sure if this was covered under The Remnant or Renegade Splinter Faction or if it maybe should be split. Not sure what it could be called.
I think this might have been a plotline on "Jericho" also but I don't remember that show well, they might have been Private Military Contractors.
