Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask a friendly guy for help. I'm that guy, and I handled it. :) You might wanna make sure to use actual bullet points in the work page, though.
EDIT: Also, the page is wrongly formatted.
EDIT AGAIN: Courtesy link.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroI took care of whatever formatting wasn't handled already. But here's some constructive criticism:
You've got several Zero Context Examples. It's not enough to say "this character fits this trope," you need to explain why they do. Explain what's badass about the Skywalker family in this story. Explain what fanservice it's most famous for.
You're supposed to write multi-word trope names by writing two words together. Like this: BadassFamily
Don't have two examples referring to each other. Writing "Rey has many fancy dresses" and "Ben also has fancy clothing" makes the Ben example weird if the Rey example is removed.
Don't write "these two." Mention them by name at some point in the example, or we won't know you mean Ben and Rey.
Don't use an "&" when you can write out the actual word "and" instead.
Use an ellipsis correctly. Don't write....like this. It's correct... to do it this way. Three dots, with a space after the last one.
And again: Don't write "what can one say?" Instead, say something about the subject.
Edited by JamesJamesAh thank you both very much!!!
Formatting is the bane of my existence on any platform, so any help is very much appreciated. I did do my best to follow the instructions as far as I could tell, but it's just not my strong suit, honestly. The bullet points looked normal on my end, so could you tell me what was incorrect about them?
I've gone back over the page to address the issues raised in this thread. If you notice anything I missed or you still think needs fixing, let me know. Thanks again!
T-QueenWell, according to the edit history, you added bullet points at first, and then removed them in this edit. Why do that?
Edited by MichaelKatsuroMore feedback:
- no addressing the audience or characters, no fillers in example context; see Administrivia.Word Cruft ("hoo boy", "hell yes", "and HOW", "uh"; "Leia, ladies and gentlemen"; "Luke, of course"; "RIP Bob, you butt" etc.)
- Word Cruft and Administrivia.Zero Context Example issues ("they are in this", "both X and Y qualify for this", "Bob certainly gives off this vibe", "Alice does this")
- Administrivia.Example Indentation In Trope Lists (If you want to list two examples, you have to format it differently than if you only have one example)
I tried to tackle some if those problems, but the page still needs more fixing.
Fanfic Recommendations is not an index for Fanfic pages, it's an index for FanficRecs/ subpages.
Where this fanfic should be indexed is FanWorks.Star Wars; I'll add it now.
Hi tropers, I made a trope page for a Star Wars fanfic "Landscape with A Blur of Conquerors", and made an entry for it on the Fanfic Recommendations index page. The link I put on the index page takes me to the fanfic's trope page just fine. However, it still says down the bottom that it has not been indexed. What do I need to do to fix this?
